My name is Gerardo Bensi and I am an English-Spanish translator and interpreter. I live in Buenos Aires. Since 2003, I have done translations of technical and academic texts, and I have interpreted in diverse settings, such as conferences, talks, trainings, meetings, audits and inspection visits.
I have worked with institutions such as the University of Buenos Aires School of Psychology, the Argentine Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the New York University in Buenos Aires

As a professor, I discovered two things: that there is nothing better than teaching something in order to learn it, and that I needed more theoretical tools to better explain the criteria that guided each translation decision. In 2006, I started to attend some seminars of the University of Buenos Aires Master’s Degree in Discourse Analysis, which enabled me to approach textual analysis in a totally new and enriching way.
Some of the personalities that I have interpreted are Álvaro García Linera, David Harvey, Anwar Shaikh, Petros Márkaris and Jane Goodall. My experience in translation and interpretation includes areas such as sociology, psychology, economics, environment, agriculture and livestock farming, renewable and non-renewable energy, pharmacology, information technology and industrial processes.
Thanks to my training, experience and respect for the terminological accuracy of each thematic field, I can provide an effective service and act as a communication facilitator, adjusting to the requirements of each particular situation. In addition, I am part of a professional network of colleagues who are competent in several areas and who can also provide interpretation in other languages.
You can rest assured that all participants will take away with them the rewarding experience of having played a fundamental role in fulfilling the purpose of the event, be it disseminating new knowledge, sharing experiences and good practices or reaching an agreement about the next steps of a project, but most importantly, of having played a part in building the future.
Consecutive Interpretation
The interpreter listens to the speaker until he / she makes a pause, and delivers the message in the language of the audience.
Interviews, press conferences, audits.
Whispering
The interpreter whispers a simultaneous interpretation in the ear of one or two participants. This mode of interpretation is useful when only a very small group needs to understand a speaker.
Talks, workshops, receptions.
Translation
Technical texts on food safety, agriculture and livestock farming, environment, economics, urban planning, renewable and non-renewable energy, human sciences, pharmacology, information technology and industrial processes.
Reports, manuals, meeting minutes, by-laws, presentations, business plans, training materials, technical specifications, project documents, letters, clinical protocols, informed consents, research papers.
Simultaneous Interpretation
In this mode, the interpreter relays the message at the same time as it is uttered by the speaker, with a delay of a few seconds. Interpretation booths or portable transmitters may be required depending on the number of attendants and the dynamics of the event.
Congresses, conferences, symposiums, panels, training courses.
Liaison Interpretation
The interpreter accompanies a person or group who has to visit different sites or an establishment, facilitating communication when required.
Inspections, equipment installation or repairs, trade missions.
